Primary Responsibility

To perform complex technical legal duties including the processing of documents through the legal system and overall support of the 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office.

Examples of Important and Essential Duties

Prepares, composes, reviews and assembles a variety of documents including filings, pleadings, memoranda, and correspondence.

Analyzes cases for essential witnesses and coordinates service of subpoenas.

Assures documents relevant to motions and briefs are filed within appropriate time limits.

Assures all procedures are followed and relevant documents are prepared.

Maintains confidential records when necessary and processes requests for information according to departmental policy, prepares reports and drafts correspondence related to technical assignment.

Work assignment is performed within an established framework under general instructions but requires simultaneous coordination of assigned functions or projects in various stages of completion.

Provides public with general and/or explanatory information as well as answers questions and resolves problems without giving legal advice.

Requirements

High school graduation or equivalent.

Five years of legal secretarial experience in a legal office.
Additional related education may count towards required experience.

Primarily sedentary physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 40 pounds; occasional lifting, carrying, walking and standing; frequent hand/eye coordination to operate computer keyboard and office equipment; vision for reading, recording and interpreting information; speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and members of the public.

Employees in this class that are project-designated part-time (PJ3 working 30-39 hours per week) are afforded medical, dental and vision benefits, as well as pro-rated vacation and sick leave accruals. Excluded from this class are long-term disability (LTD) insurance, life insurance, and retirement benefits.

Employees in this class that are regular part-time (less than 30 hours per week); project-designated part-time (PJ2 less than 30 hours per week), or temporary are afforded no benefits.
