Job Description

The Director, Professional Services Strategic Sourcing, reporting to the Chief Procurement Officer, Sourcing & Procurement Solutions, will be responsible for developing and leading Category Specialists and delivering sourcing and category management services in the diverse areas of marketing, print, public relations, welfare & benefits, recruiting, training & education, contingent labor, consulting, call center, facilities management, legal and related subcategories. The Director, Professional Services Strategic Sourcing will provide leadership of the Professional Services category resources including goal setting, performance appraisal, motivation, training and coaching to ensure effective service delivery.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, design, direct & manage sourcing strategic and procurement processes for Professional Services categories/sub-categories to address areas of opportunity or benefit impact. Design sourcing and procurement strategies to reduce costs, meet ROI targets, mitigate risk, drive demand management value capture and achieve savings goals. 
  • Lead Professional Services strategic sourcing teams through an industrialized sourcing process for complex strategic initiatives; development and review of opportunity assessments and negotiation strategies. Review complex competitive bid processes involving large cross-functional teams; supplier business proposals; determine opportunities to conduct eRFX or eAuctions; provide recommendations for business strategy awards; negotiate complex and multi-affiliate Allstate agreements.
  • Build and lead a cohesive team and work collaboratively with a broad and diverse client base supported by the Professional Services categories/sub-categories.
  • Demonstrate a high level of Professional Services category/sub-category expertise and industry competency to keep current on best practices, new suppliers, market trends, category management and procurement strategies.
  • Develop short and long term category plans working closely with business stakeholders aligning to evolving business needs reflective of current and future looking procurement strategies and initiatives
  • Ability to deploy resources, control budget and expenses, implement operational policies and adopt eSourcing systems.
  • Direct the analytics of the Professional Services expenditure base, identifying cost reduction projects through aggregating spend, reducing TCO, supplier negotiations or other cost reduction initiatives, performing market analysis, recommending sourcing strategies w/defined risk/benefit analysis & mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure sourcing tactics align with supplier management philosophy with compliance to Allstate’s diligent processes
  • Champion Allstate’s commitment to social responsibility through our award winning supplier diversity program and corporate sustainability practices
  • Proactive issue identification, root cause problem solving and analysis, solution development that supports and/or aligns with business stakeholder strategies, and conflict resolution
  • Ability to effectively work closely with business partners in Legal, Risk Management, Data Privacy, Information Security, Finance, Accounts Payable, Tax and other enabling business functions to ensure contract execution and compliance with Allstate’s standards.

Job Qualifications



  • Undergraduate Degree in Business, Finance, Supply Chain Management or related field
  • MBA, CPSM/CPM and/or CPCU strongly preferred
  • 12+ years of experience in sourcing and procurement delivering sourcing/buying services, strategic sourcing, supplier management, category management, compliance management, and demand management ideally in the financial sector or insurance industry.
  • Significant experience managing, leading and developing resources including geographically dispersed resources.
  • Proven experience modeling TCO and demand management
  • Experience with global sourcing preferred
  • Collaborative leadership, strong interpersonal skills and ability to provide strategic thought leadership.
  • Possess strong, proven negotiation skills and experience with large and/or highly complex products and services.
  • Advanced relationship management skills working across the enterprise and supplier organizations.
  • Exceptional analytical, written and oral communication skills.
  • Advanced experience with contract development and contract management processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, inspire and influence others
  • Experience with integration, change management, and operational improvements.
  • Experience of working with eSourcing and eProcurement technology.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Project).
