Position Summary

This is a 12-month appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, renewable annually at the discretion of the Dean. The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the OHSU / PSU School of Public Health ( SPH ) serves as the key leader for faculty and academic program matters, including direction of all undergraduate and graduate programs. The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs provides leadership for, and coordination of all academic programs offered by the SPH , including strategic planning, resource allocation, implementation, evaluation and continuous improvement, and works closely with other Associate Deans to provide rigorous academic and applied practice training; support student success; build and maintain relationships with community partners and public health practitioners; manage strategic initiatives; and, contribute to the School's research mission. The incumbent reports to the Dean of the OHSU / PSU School of Public Health, and serves in a senior leadership capacity within the School as outlined in this position description, SPH Bylaws, and Policies and Procedures. If the incumbent is a Portland State University ( PSU ) faculty member, the position is excluded from the PSU bargaining unit due to the managerial duties. The overarching responsibility of the Asssociate Dean of Academic Affairs is to lead the faculty towards developing and implementing a curriculum that will advance the SPH as a leader in training tomorrow's health workforce as well as advancing new knowledge and policy to promote health and well-being in Oregon and beyond.

Primary Activity A - Administrative

Minimum Qualifications

Qualified candidates must have an earned doctorate and meet expectations for a faculty appointment at the level of Associate of Full Professor at OHSU and/or PSU . Candidates must also have an MPH or other health-related degree, or substantial experience in an MPH or closely related degree program.

  • Professional experience in, and contributions to the fields of public health and health systems; substantial administrative, fiscal, and research experience; and, experience with programmatic and regulatory evaluation and compliance.
  • A minimum of five years' experience in public health and/or private practice, as well as evidence of administrative experience.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and foster collaborative and collegial relationships with faculty, students, staff, institutional and external stakeholders, and community members.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, including the ability to balance competing priorities; outstanding written, verbal, and analytic skills; strong leadership ability; and, evidence of a commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
  • Ability to foster an environment of respect and inclusion across the partner institutions, and with faculty, staff, students and the broader health community.
  • PSU candidates must have earned tenure.
  • Candidates with experience with academic program development, evaluation, curricular design, linking academia and practice, fostering efforts to enhance diversity, and mediating conflict are preferred.
  • Travel to SPH partnership and stakeholder groups and to local, regional and national meetings is required.
  • The ability to travel between, and maintain a physical presence at both institutions is required.

    Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement

    The starting annual salary rate for this position will be between $137,000 and $152,000, dependent upon qualifications and experience, with an excellent benefits package including 95% premium paid healthcare; a generous retirement and vacation package; and reduced tuition rates for employee, spouse or dependent at any of the Oregon Public Universities.
